The Lottery income for child treatment in Afghanistan
KABUL, 10 November 2008 (IRIN) – Income as of a national lottery owned by the Afghan Red Crescent Society (ARCS) has enclosed the healing costs of 26 poor kids who were affected by congenital heart defects more than the past two years, the NGO said.
Congenital heart defects (CHD) are faults in the makeup of the heart also vast vessels of infant babies. These faults frequently hinder blood stream, grounds an uneven heartbeat and can show the way to death.
As the reason of CHD is not completely identified, experts consider it is frequently a grouping of hereditary disposition and ecological factors. CHD typically need surgery or pills.
“Each month we finance the treatment of three toward four children,” Mohammad Salim Bahramand, director of the ARCS’s health department, told IRIN. He said that every cure expenses US$2,000-2,500 and that there has been a rising occurrence of the illness in Afghanistan.
“Finances meant for the cures are produced by means of our lottery tickets,” he said, indicating toward a national lottery presenting tickets for approximately $1 and impressive prizes meant for winners.
The ARCS said it is assisting mainly susceptible children stricken by CHD within the country and in addition by the side of medical centers in Pakistan as well as India.
